Preserving the
beauty and uniqueness of the land for public use, President
Ulysses S. Grant signed a law on March 1, 1872 that made
Yellowstone the world’s first national park. Ninety-six
percent of Yellowstone is in the state of Wyoming. Three
percent of the park is situated in Montana with only one
percent in Idaho.
